Miss America’s Outstanding Teen
January 12, 2009September 8th, 2008
Wow, so much has gone on since the last time I blogged. I would first like to start with my send- off party. Thank you to Jenee’ Johnson for putting together a wonderful party! Also everyone who attended, I really appreciated it, it was so much fun and we had a great turn out. It is always good to see friends and family and even contestants both teen and miss support me. I was fully prepared to head off to nationals from there. I recieved a very special glass pumpkin from Terry for good luck at nationals, that I definitely kept with me allllllll week thanks Terry!
My week at nationals was absolutely an experience I will never forget. They couldn’t of picked a better roommate for me. Sydney and I got along great, and she was there for support which was soo important when you are away from your parents for so long. So thank you Syd for being so amazing throughout our week together! We did a lot of exciting things when we weren’t rehearsing.
Our first day consisted of check in and our Tony Bowls photoshoot! Thank you to Tony and Zac Gimaldo for providing our dresses and photographing us. They turned our magnificent, that was an experience I won’t forget in itself! At night we went to a Hawaiian Luau as sort of a welcoming party. We danced the night away and had the chance to listen to Rhonda Sheer speak about chasing our dreams and following our heart. That was very inspiring to hear a preview pageant contestant speak about her experiences as well.
Our second night was MIDIEVAL TIMES! That was soo much fun. FYI- the yellow knight dominated the others ( I was on that team! YAY!) haha. It’s always funny to see 52 Miss America’s Outstanding Teen contestants devour chicken with our bare hands Haha! We were all pretty tired after that night, I don’t think any of us really expected to have such a busy day. The next day was strictly rehearsals, I loved our choreographer Pam! She was soo funny and really put together a FANTASTIC show for us.
That night Sydney and I were really hungry so we spent about 3 hours (exaggerating!) trying to find Domino’s pizza in the phonebook, haha we had a few contestants over and we sat around and talked about everything and really got to know each other. That was a really fun night, Sydney and I took action shots jumping off the bed! After everyone left we thought it would be a good idea to watch a scary movie so we watched “Scream!”
Needless to say Sydney and I ended up in the same bed before the movie was over haha we were both little scardy cats that night. We had an early morning so we got to bed! We did so many exiciting things the rest of the week as we competed in pre-lims! We got to swim in the pool, have a luncheon with our princesses! By the way, call me biased but Kate and Dee were the cutest little princesses I could ever ask for. Thank you Barb for allowing me to share my experience with them, they really brightened up my days
Also we went to a coffee shop to listen to a local band. “In Passing” they were so awesome, I decided to become a fan : ) I bought their C.D and I LOVE it!!!! That was also a great time for us girls to get to hang out and not worry about the competition and eat some yummy ice cream! Lots of cute photos with the band that night too!!!! I also recommend listening to In Passing on itunes they are very easy listening.
The day was finally here….MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY! I had an influx of over 100 cards and gifts and right off the bat I want to thank each person who took the time out of their day to send me a card. It meant soooo much to me, really! I loved reading everyone’s personal messages and everything, it was soo sweet That day was very special to me, I couldn’t of asked for a better birthday. Sydney and I stayed up until midnight awaiting for the clock to tick just one more time to 12:00 ….I”M 17!!!!
The contestants one by one lined up outside my door and wished me a happy birthday, thanks girls that was soo cute! That afternoon I went to the princess make over! The teens had to design a dress out of table clothes and such. Dee was the cutest I must say once again I designed a very adorable pink, bright orange, and fushsia 80’s themed dress for her! She was totally rad, and the cutest thing since Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink! Directly after that we went to the Sock Hop! We danced and jived to our favorite 50’s jams! We got to see the miss contestants that night too, sadly Miss Katie couldn’t ne there, but I definitely got to brag about how my beautiful miss was doing a photoshoot with Tony himself! ( love yuh Kate!) It was our last night in the hotel so Syd and I stayed up alllll night and talked about our week and everything we loved, we laughed and cried!
The next day was finals, although I didn’t make top ten I danced the best I ever have, and handled myself with poise during onstage question, and flexed my little muscles as best as I could in active wear. I feel everything happens for a reason and even though I wasn’t a top finalist I took away life experiences I will never forget.
Every single contestant taught me a life lesson and a little bit of advice that I use everyday. Syd you taught me to be more positive and not worry about the things I can’t control …the other girls still have something special about them I remember

My first blog…it’s gonna be a long one!
January 12, 2009July 21st, 2008
Hello Everybody!
Sorry about the delay on blogging, the log in and password was just not working out for us! Nonetheless it is fixed now. I first want to say thank you to all the contestants, staff, producers, and directors! I have heard nothing but wonderful things from everyone on how smooth the show went and how great this year was. That wouldn’t of been possible without all of YOU! My week in Zionsville with everyone was a blast!!!! I thought that was a busy week, but WOW little did I know! On Sunday I got my headshots taken and took care of a little paperwork. Believe me there is SOOOOoOOO much paperwork for nationals (who knew?) you want to do just a little at a time or you will have major OvErLoAd! After that I was free to go, only for so long though!
My first appearance was the next day. I was a guest on the Froggy 106.7 morning show, which is the local radio station in Dekalb County. That was a BLAST! I was a participant in a watermelon seed spitting contest! ( Sounds really gross..I know!) I also played a few games on air and took a tour of the station. Then I was off to visit Miss Lindsey Brown, a writer for our local paper in Auburn. She did a follow up on me and preparing for nationals. That was a very very busy day! Then I was off to work at the pool ( Go ACP!) where I got to hear myself on the radio! (which was secretly really awesome!)
I also helped host a golf outting with the lovely Katie Stam for Habitat for Humanity. A former Miss Indiana contestant and choreographer Lindsey Helmer ( who was once 1st runner up to Miss Indiana) invited us to promote Habitat. I thought that was truly a wonderful experience just to see Lindsey still making a difference in our communities, you should be very proud of yourself and your accomplishments! That day went by so fast because we were having an awesome time with the golf carts! Mrs. Helmer even let me drive one!!!! (Thanks Denise!) A special thanks to Cobblestone for coordinating with us and making it so fun!
4th of July in Zionsville was VERY …VERY entertaining! It was my first time back since my crowning and it was worth it! First off a BiG thank you to the Lions Club of Zionsville for putting together such a wonderful event! I would encourage the contestants who are familiar with Zionsville to definitely venture down there again to experience the fireworks and entertainment! My entertainment started out with the….CHICKEN DANCE! Katie and I had so much fun dancing with all the little kids and singin’ the YMCA! Signing autographs was my favorite part though! All the little kids were so adorable and funny! Rex…wow…enough said! He was the epitome of a thirteen year old boy. His little friend made sure everyone knew that I was his “girlfriend” haha! That was such a fun day. We wrapped it up with fireworks which were AmAzInG!
That night we needed to find a place to stay that would be close to Jim and Joy. That was an experience, I tell you what!!! Everywhere we went they were booked or only have a single bed available. So we drove further…and further. We come accross the Bates Motel…literally. I had to sleep on a mattress from the 1960’s and smelled like moth balls! Haha I couldn’t help but laugh at the situation though. I had to get up bright and early to visit Jim and Joy so a creeky old bed was just fine right about then! The next day was spent on interview prep and paperwork. Since then I have been working on my dance…which is what I need to do
